SPINNY BRAND CO. “BRITTLE NOT BROKEN” BLACK T-SHIRT
SPINNY BRAND CO. “BRITTLE NOT BROKEN” BLACK T-SHIRT
This shirt is dedicated to my medical condition. Below is an image of my left arm, I broke some years back. The bone is healed in the X-Ray, which you can see healed at a weird angle. It doesn’t hurt, but bothers me from time to time, especially during the cold season. I have been living with Osteogenesis Imperfecta aka Brittle Bone Disease my entire life. The effects of this condition involve, Brittle Bones, bones much more fragile than those of a normal person. This means that the bones are more susceptible to breaks and fractures. In addition, with my stage of OI, comes a shorter stature of height, and limbs, some blue tint around the whites of the eye, and wheelchair bound. Growing up, life was rough, due to all the broken bones and injuries. It wasn’t just hard on me, but my family as well.
Eventually we all learned how to handle my situation and I finally got to a place where I stopped living in fear, and just started living my life, outside my condition. Once I realized that I could accomplish things outside of what was expected, I began to break or injure less and enjoy life more. See the thing is, our mentality controls many aspects of our life. If you live life in fear of living, you’ll never really get to live the life you want. I eventually began hanging with friends on my own, at home and public. Attending concerts, getting through college without a helper, going on dates, running my collectible business, attending events and creating an entire brand. I was able to do all this because I realized just because I was born brittle, didn’t mean I had to live a broken life. I’ve been thriving for the last 6 years. I encourage those living with the same condition as me, to take a “step” back and reevaluate. Are you living your life to the fullest extent, or are you holding back? Is there things you want to do but been too fearful to try? I invite you to take the chance on yourself. See how your life improves and what doors lie ahead. & to those loved ones, afraid to let go. It’s time. Let your loved one explore their limitations themselves, instead of deciding for them. Let them build the strength to challenge them. Because without trying, you’ll never know.
